In August 2020 Liverpool John Moores University completed a 35-year lease with Carpenter Investments subsidiary Liverpool Edge (Hardman Street) Ltd for a new Teaching Building.

This building is occupied by Liverpool John Moores University's School of Education. It is built on the site of LJMU's former Haigh Building on Maryland Street.

The 5-storey building was designed by L7 who worked closely with the University Facilities Management team. The new building provides the very latest teaching and learning facilities, along with individual and group study spaces for our students.

Accessed off Maryland Street it is immediately opposite Aldham Robarts Library and the Aquinas Building and very close to a cluster of student residences. The Library is one of the two designated libraries belonging to Liverpool John Moores University, in Liverpool. It serves the Mount Pleasant Campus, situated in Liverpool's Knowledge Quarter. The Aquinas Building is home to the University's Student Advice and Wellbeing Services.

The accommodation is arranged over 5 storeys, in 2 distinct halves. One side of the building is devoted to staff offices and the other accommodates large open plan teaching spaces

The Education building comprises of 3,881m2 of accommodation arranged over 5 storeys, in 2 distinct halves. One side of the building is devoted to staff offices and the other accommodates large open plan teaching spaces. Between the two, lies a central circulation zone with common facilities including IT and break out areas, tea bars and rest rooms. A partial basement area provides additional teaching and support space.

It has been built in conjunction with 355 bed spaces of student accommodation in Hardman House on an adjacent site linked with a landscaped public courtyard.

The construction comprised a steel frame with light grey/brown facing brick and aluminium windows and curtain wall to the main entrance atrium. The building is provided with a cooling system throughout with a roof top plant room and blue roof (designed for the attenuation of rain water).

L7 designed the interiors of the core spaces including the reception, main circulation areas and staircases as well as the toilets. The University fitted out the offices and teaching interiors with its own choice of furniture and equipment.

The new building provides the very latest teaching and learning facilities, along with individual and group study spaces for LJMU's students.
